Portugal, Italy, Spain and Turkey still without a football champion’s club

Paris Saint-Germain was the first team to win a top championship this season (2024/2025), winning Ligue 1 six days in advance. Luis Enrique’s team, already winners of the French Super Cup, will have a chance to end this season with as many as four trophies (French Cup final scheduled for May 24 against Reims and UEFA Champions League final scheduled for May 31 against FC Internazionale Milano in Munich).

The other two European clubs that have already sealed the deal are Bayern München, Bundesliga champions, and Liverpool, Premier League champions, respectively. Still without a champion’s club, however, Italian soccer’s Serie A, which, with 3 matches to go, sees SSC Napoli and FC Internazionale Milano (UEFA Champions League final for the second time in the past 3 years) dueling for the final victory, with Napoli up to +3 on rivals. Also without a champion’s club, La Liga in Spain, which, with 4 matches to go, features the head-to-head between FC Barcelona (first with 79 points) and Real Madrid (second with 75), with Barcelona winning the Copa del Rey 2025 in the final against Real Madrid.

Very exciting is the Portuguese football league, Liga Portugal, which with two matches to go, features the Lisbon derby between Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Sporting Clube de Portugal which will be played today, May 10, 2025 at 6 p.m. (local time) at the Estádio da Luz, home of SL Benfica. Both clubs arrive at this date with 78 points but with Sporting virtually first thanks to favorable goal difference (+1). If Sporting win, Viktor Gyökeres and teammates will officially be champions for the second consecutive year, if, on the other hand, Benfica will win by 2 or more goals, then it will be Rui Costa‘s club that will celebrate the triumph.

Rather uncertain Turkish Süper Lig as well, with Galatasaray (83 points) and Fenerbahçe (78 points) battling it out with 4 matches to go.
